Built during the Ayutthaya period in Khmer-style, Wat Arun is situated on the west (Thonburi) bank of the Chao Phraya River. Its architectural splendor, so different to most other temples in Thailand, makes it one of the most stunning attractions in Bangkok, particularly special when viewed at sunset. The imposing central spire is over 70 meters high, and from its highest point there are superb views across the river to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
