Off the Beaten Path in Bangkok: Exploring the City’s Hidden Gems

October 18, 2024

While Bangkok is often hailed for its iconic landmarks in the form of skyscrapers and temples, there are plenty of other hidden gems waiting to be explored away from the tourist crowds. Here are some of the more fascinating sites and treasures to visit for an authentic tour of the city.

Wat Pariwat

This is one of the more quirkier sites to visit that has an unusual blend of religious reverence and pop culture. One of its most striking features is a statue of David Beckham at the shrine’s base. Other popular figures you’ll find include Captain America, Albert Einstein, and even Winnie the Pooh. But of course, the temple also features sculptures of Indian deities and various figures from Buddhist figures.

Muang Boran Ancient City

This open-air complex is shaped exactly like the ancient Thai kingdom which makes its hidden status unusual. The complex features more than 116 golden structures that represent the kingdom’s most prized structures. You’ll also witness the impressive sight of the Grand Palace of Ayutthaya’s replica.

Benchakitti Forest Park

While there are many other popular scenic locations to visit in the city, this lush forest park is just as worth a visit, although it stays out of the limelight. The park does feature a thick growth of forest that completely hides the cityscape. This makes it an ideal spot for a stroll away from the city’s sights and sounds, once you step out of your luxury accommodation in Bangkok.

The Artist House

This 200-year-old house is easily recognised along the Chao Phraya Gallery because of its tall stupa from the Ayutthaya period. Once you enter the house you can admire plenty of creative artefacts like Thai puppets, paintings, and masks. If you are staying at a nearby hotel like Pathumwan Princess Hotel, visiting this quaint gallery is definitely worth a visit.
