The Mooncake Festival 2022 – A Day of Celebrations!

August 15, 2022

The mid-autumn festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, holds much importance to those who live in China, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Second to only the Chinese New Year, this is a reunion for families to gather and worship the moon whilst celebrating with paper lanterns and mooncakes.

When Do They Celebrate?
The festival date is decided based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Usually, the 15th date of the eighth month, which could be September or October, is considered mid-Autumn. This year, the festival will be held on the 10th of September. You can book a meeting space in Bangkok, preferably at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel, if you’re looking for a place to meet your Thai friends and family.

Cause for Celebration
The festival’s origins run back to 3000 years when it started as a custom to worship the moon to show gratitude for the harvest. Today, it is similar to Thanksgiving, a family reunion and prayer together for the happiness and good health.

How They Celebrate
Many activities take place on this auspicious day, including eating mooncakes, worshipping the moon, and hanging paper lanterns in the streets and houses. The sky lanterns floating in the air make the most stunning view during this celebration.

How to Participate
You can meet your Asian friends or walk down the streets to capture the beauty of this festival whilst trying the mooncakes available to buy from the stalls. Hang a paper lantern with a wish for good health and happiness, and don’t forget to seal the memories on your camera to cherish them forever!
